A large collection of documents relating to members of the Wadsworth family including James Wadsworth (1768-1844), William Wadsworth (1761-1833) and James Wadsworth (b.1819) who served as mayor of Buffalo. The papers are full of documents that relate to the settlement and development of western New York State. Included are correspondence, deeds, leases, agreements, papers relating to the Buffalo, Brantford and Goderich Railroad, and other documents of particular interest are documents relating to the relief of purchasers of lands in the Cayuga, Oneida and Onondaga Indian Reservations in 1803, the improvement of public health in New York, N.Y. and relief for the Leake and Watts orphanage in New York, N.Y. Also included are a number of receipts from the New York State Treasurer, 1799-1815.
